WWOOFing in Paros

For six weeks beginning in March I had the opportunity to learn an extensive amount of skills and meet two wonderful people. Through WWOOFGREECE I discovered the hand built hotel on the Greek island of Paros. It was as though someone had learned of my dream home long ago and built it and now I was going to help. I wasn't sure what to expect when my plane arrived and I walked out the door to find a man with crazy hair pointing at me saying 'you!' but I never know what to expect. I climbed into the vehicle with Jim and Irini and their two fluffy dogs Fred and Charlie and we were off to the garden.
WOW! At first I struggled to believe I was actually here, such a beautiful place, full of flowers, trees, and paths; I had not realized gardening was an art form. Luckily now I know that, along with a myriad of other skills I picked up or refined while there. I learned to mix concrete and use it to create finishing details on the hotel. I also mixed concrete to make a turtle. I learned sheep wear bells around their necks to make a most pleasant jingle. I mixed paint and finished a ceiling advancing my nail gun abilities. I caught lizards, frogs, moths, skinks, and a hedgehog. I took long exploratory walks with my camera, tried to play tennis, and created three paintings. We attended a lovely concert, ate delicious meals, and had deep philosophical conversations.
I was surrounded by exotic colours, extraordinary scents, and lots of animals. Two dogs (Fred and Charlie), five cats (Lou, Pinks, Shorty, Olive, and Pepe), and the ducks. I loved those ducks, fed them every day.
But the time came when I had to leave. Twas a sad day to leave such a wonderful place, but I will be back one day...
