This past weekend was Exit Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia. Amazingly talented musicians from all over the world gather here to entertain hundreds of thousands of festival goers inside Petrovaradin Fortress. It was like nothing I had ever seen before, and such a brilliant way to use this 300 year old fortress. While walking around I discovered the artist colony which also resided here. With over 88 studios full of every type of artist I fell in love. Chambers in Petrovaradin have been transformed into artist havens full canvas, wood, paint, books, computers, and inspirational objects. I had the opportunity to meet the president of this colony, Borivoj Poprzan, an amazing surrealist and associative landscape artist. I really hope to arrange some exhibition opportunities with this colony in the near future! Petrovaradin fortress has been an important cultural and art center since 1951, and the largest art colony in the world with over 88 art studios. It is part of cultural identity of Novi Sad where visitors can buy paintings or some other art pieces, talk with the artists and feel the atmosphere of studios while works of art are created. |
